FES supports National Youth Commission’s apprenticeship initiative
5 August 2015
Dagupan City, Philippines
As part of FES’ continuous commitment for a strategic and long-term investment for young people, one of the projects supported this 2015 was the Apprenticeship Project of the National Youth Commission (NYC).
The #ApprenticePH Project was aimed at sparking interest among LGUs, industry members, and the youth in agri-fishery sector. The culminating activity for the Project was an apprenticeship summit in Dagupan City held last 5 August 2015. The summit was a two-part event that was consisted of a job fair and a forum. The summit gathered 25 enterprises and approximately 500 youth participants. The forum invited representatives from various National Government Agencies and Dagupan-based groups.
The forum brought the issue of apprenticeship to the youth in order for them the step from interested participants into actual apprentices. In addition to this, the forum also helped the youth to make the necessary measures to further spread awareness regarding the advantages and benefits of being an agri-fishery apprentice.
Through the agri-fishery apprenticeship summit, NYC was able to come up with a strategy in order tp address the issues of youth unemployment through apprenticeships. After the events, there was an increase in the number of industry members that have registered apprenticeship programs. LGUs have also made more knowledgeable about apprenticeship that if they are interested in creating apprenticeship programs in their own municipalities and/or cities, they will have an idea of the correct procedures, the rules, and the regulations that come hand in hand with apprenticeship. ###
